How do I set up my phone numbers in Lineage?
Video Walkthrough
Lineage gives you 10 phone numbers included in your plan. Setting them up takes about five minutes and is the gateway to making your first call. You'll also set a callback number so incoming calls from prospects route to your real phone.
When you'd do this
Right after completing your profile, before uploading leads or making your first call.
Step 1 — Open Settings → Calling
In the left sidebar, click Settings. At the top of the Settings page is a row of horizontal tabs — click Calling.

Step 2 — Set your callback number
The first section is My Callback Number. This is where Lineage routes incoming calls — if a lead calls you back, this is the phone that rings.
Use your personal cell phone or any number you actually answer. It does not need to be a Lineage number.
Click the Edit button to the right of the number, enter your callback number, and save.

Step 3 — Add your first phone number
Scroll down to My Phone Numbers. Your plan includes 10 numbers — these are the numbers your outbound calls will dial out from..
Click Purchase phone number. The new number appears in the Included in your plan list.

Step 4 — Name your number (optional but recommended)
Each assigned number has a Set Friendly Name button. Pick a name that helps you remember the number's purpose. Examples:
- "Texas long-distance"
- "Local Austin"
- "Backup"
This name shows up in the From dropdown when you're about to make a call, so make it memorable to you.

Step 5 — Repeat for as many numbers as you need
Most agents use three to ten numbers, rotated so no single number gets flagged by carriers for too many calls. Add as many as your call volume justifies, up to the ten included in your plan.
Tip: if you call across multiple states, get numbers with area codes that match where your leads live. People are more likely to answer local-looking calls.
If you need more than 10 numbers
Below the included slots is an Additional paid numbers section. After your first ten, each additional number is billed per number based on your purchase cost.

Step 6 — Enable call recording (optional, check legal compliance first)
Below the phone-number sections is the Enable Call Recording toggle. Recording every call is useful for training, compliance review, and dispute resolution, but it is not on by default, and it should not be enabled until you've confirmed it's legal in every state you call into.
Important — legal compliance. Call recording laws vary by state and country. Some places (like California, Florida, and Pennsylvania) require all parties on the call to consent. Others only require one party. Before you turn this on, check the recording laws for every state you'll be calling and the state you're calling from. If you're unsure, talk to your compliance officer or attorney first.
To turn it on, click the Enable Call Recording toggle. Enabling recording will add per-minute recording charges and storage costs to your account, so make sure your plan accounts for it.

Step 7 — Choose how long recordings are kept
Once recording is on, a Recording Retention Period dropdown appears under My Call Recordings. This controls how long Lineage keeps each call recording before it's deleted automatically.
The available options are:
- Keep Forever (the default)
- Never Keep (recordings are deleted as soon as they're created — useful if you want recording enabled but don't want to store the audio)
- 15, 30, 60, 90, 180, or 365 days
Another compliance note. Some jurisdictions limit how long you can retain call recordings, especially recordings that contain personally identifiable information or financial data. Pick a retention period that matches both your business needs and the rules that apply to where your leads live.

Important — register every number with Spam Hammer
Picking your numbers in Lineage is only half the setup. Each number also needs to be added to Spam Hammer, a partner service that monitors your numbers for carrier spam-flagging. See Add your numbers to Spam Hammer for that step.
If you skip Spam Hammer, you'll dial fine for a few days, but your numbers may start getting flagged as spam by carriers and your connect rate will tank. Don't skip it.
Common issues
"I purchased a number but it's not showing in the list."
Refresh the page. New numbers sometimes take a few seconds to appear.
"I want a specific area code but I can't pick it."
The picker shows whatever Lineage has available right now. If you need a specific area code that isn't available, contact support.
"What's the difference between callback number and my purchased numbers?"
- Callback number = the phone you pick up (your real phone). Incoming calls from leads route here.
- Purchased numbers = the phones leads see on caller ID when you call them. These are your dialing-out numbers.
What's next
Once your numbers are set up, you can add them to Spam Hammer, then move on to uploading your leads and making your first call.
