# How to add an agent

Once an agent is on your roster they get your branding, your variables, your contacts page and the journey you published. Everything you set up was for this.

It's the same **Add person** wizard you use for staff, with different questions on the last two screens.

## Before you start

- **Their email address.** An agent signs in, so the invitation needs somewhere to go.
- **Who their upline is.** The wizard requires it.

## Open the wizard

Click **People** in the sidebar, then **Add person** at the top right. Enter their name and email, then click **Next**.

## Step 2: choose Agent

**Agent** is someone going through the journey. That's what makes them count as an agent, appear on My Agents, and get enrolled.

## Step 3: the agent questions

### Licensed or unlicensed (required)

Pick where they are today. Journeys can target tasks at licensed agents, unlicensed agents, or both, so this decides which tasks the agent actually sees when they sign in.

If they're partway through licensing, choose **Unlicensed**. You can change it later from their agent page.

### Upline (required)

Who they report to. This is their position in your organization, so it drives whose downline they appear in, who can see and manage them, and who gets notified for upline tasks on their journey.

### Track access

Your journey is divided into tracks, like Foundation, Production and Reproduction. A new agent gets **each track's defaults**.

**Customize** opens or closes individual tracks for this one person. Use it when you have a specific reason, like someone experienced joining who shouldn't start at the beginning.

### Email the invitation

- **On:** the agent gets an email inviting them to set up their account.
- **Off:** you get a **shareable link** to send yourself. Useful when you're sitting with the person, or when their email is likely to eat the invitation.

### Market and notes

Both optional. **Market** records whether they came through someone you know (warm) or found you on their own (cold). **Notes** is pinned to their timeline as a sticky note.

Click **Add person** to finish.

## What happens next

They appear on the **Agents** tab, and on your **My Agents** page under their upline.

Until they accept, they sit in the **Invited** block at the top of the People list with an expiry date, where you can **Resend** or **Withdraw** the invitation. No account exists until they accept.

Once they accept and sign in, they land on their journey.

## When they're ready to build

An agent can be given permission to recruit and manage their own agents, which puts them on the Builders tab. That's covered in [How to let an agent build their own team](https://help.lineagecrm.com/en/article/how-to-let-an-agent-build-their-own-team-1asyt11/).
